I once had an employer tell me “what is best for you is what’s best for us.” He knew that if I took a promotion I didn’t really want, I wouldn’t perform as well as someone who did. And, he knew if I didn’t want to be there at all, not only would I be happier somewhere else. They would be better off without me.
