If your life were a novel, what would be the title?
Where Are All The Grown Ups?
Where were you born?
Muncie, Indiana
Where is the place you call home?
Noblesville, Indiana
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always told my mother that I wanted to wear high heels and carry a briefcase. As I got older, I developed the interest in psychology and imagined being a professor and/or researcher.
What is your profession?
I own a private practice for mental health and wellness. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work and am a Licensed Addiction Therapist. I love direct care and still see people individually. However, being a business owner has tapped into my passion to take care of the clinicians that work at the practice, collaborating with the community, and using all the math that I thought I would never need in high school!
What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?
Yoga Instructor I think it would be amazing to have a job that completely focuses on centering, connecting to the body, and taking care of people seeking the same. I always walk out of a yoga class thinking that the yoga instructor is a magic, 500 year old guru, sent here to help us. It's probably just all the oxygen in my body and relaxation but I love that feeling!
What is your favorite quote?
"Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast" --Alice In Wonderland
What is your preferred form of creative expression?
Listening to music while painting
What is your favorite movie, song, and work of art?
Favorite Movie: Nightmare Before Christmas This movie came out when I was 13 years old. I was captivated by the idea of different worlds and the different emotional struggles that the movie explored. The music lit up my brain and the animation was amazing. I guess it captured my angst as a teenager. I still watch it every week during October and my children know the movie word for word. Favorite Song: Just One?! Impossible! Music is THE BEST! I find myself daydreaming about what song would be playing in the background since I think everyone should have a soundtrack in their life. Work of Art: Melting Clock by Salvador Dali I lived in England my junior year of college and we went to the Dali Museum. I fell in love with his work
Who do you admire most?
Elizabeth I, Queen of England. She married her kingdom (herself) so that the patriarch couldn't influence her thru marriage. So fierce!
Over the course of your life, what is an issue with which you have repeatedly struggled?
Perfectionism-I always expect myself to know how to navigate everything, even in situations that I have never been in or have any context to reference. It's like suddenly being dropped in Germany and expecting to be fluent in German immediately. Intellectually I work on giving myself grace using the mantra: I'm not fluent in German, I'm not fluent in German. But emotionally and automatically, this is my reaction to life.
In childhood, who was your celebrity crush?
Brad Pitt
What historical figure would you most like to meet?
Abraham Lincoln
What natural gift or ability would you most like to possess?
I would love to be able to play the piano like a savant
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Trying to learn what my children need from me at each phase of their lives. Motherhood is by far the most challenging and amazing avenue to really learn how to live life along side another human.
What quality do you admire most in a person?
Intelligence, empathy, awareness, openness, relentless pursuit
What is something you would like to learn about?
How to make pottery
What do you wish more people knew about you?
That I constantly feel like I'm just winging it and hoping it will be okay!
What is your idea of success?
Professionally, this is constantly changing and I struggle to allow myself to "rest". I do think personal success is developing a relationship with others that allows support and conversation no matter what is happening.
What would you like people to say about you when you’re gone?
She never gave up.
